Chamber Ensemble Concert of the Estudiantina of the Cyclades<\/p>\n
The Estudiantina of the Cyclades invites you to the concert \u201cSoloists and Musical Instruments\u201d, a warm and meaningful musical evening dedicated to highlighting some of the instruments that shape the ensemble\u2019s distinctive sound.<\/p>\n
This is a concert\u2013presentation in which each instrument is given its own solo spotlight and is then integrated into group works, illuminating its role within orchestral collaboration.<\/p>\n
The chamber ensemble of the Estudiantina will present the violin, santouri (hammered dulcimer), and kanonaki (qanun), followed by the ney, oud, accordion, bouzouki, flute, clarinet, saxophone, c\u00fcmb\u00fc\u015f, traditional percussion (such as daouli, toubeleki, and defi), while the evening will culminate with the Cretan lyra and the askomandoura.<\/p>\n
The violin will demonstrate its expressive power as both a quintessential solo and orchestral instrument. The santouri will add rhythmic and harmonic vibrancy, with its characteristic clarity and rapid passages. The kanonaki, with its multiple strings and capacity for subtle microtonal shifts, will be presented as an instrument that supports melodic and harmonic development within an orchestra.<\/p>\n
The ney, with its airy and lyrical character, will highlight the melodic dimension of the repertoire, while the oud and bouzouki will showcase the function of plucked string instruments, both as rhythmic foundation and as melodic voices. The accordion will provide harmonic richness and sustained sonic support. The flute, clarinet, and saxophone will present different aspects of wind instruments, from clarity and delicacy to strong projection and dynamic presence. The c\u00fcmb\u00fc\u015f, with its metallic resonator and penetrating sound, will add a distinctive contemporary color to the ensemble. Traditional percussion will form the rhythmic core of the evening, shaping the pulse and musical climaxes.<\/p>\n
This concert is not only an artistic event but also an open educational experience. Through brief, accessible presentations and live musical examples, the audience will become familiar with the main characteristics of each instrument: its historical and organological identity, musical range, role as a solo or accompanying instrument, and its contribution to the overall sonic architecture of the Estudiantina of the Cyclades.<\/p>\n
The event is organized by MUSIC STEPS, with funding from the European Union within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme and the BRIAM project (2024-1-ES01-KA210-ADU-000251084).<\/p>\n
Admission is free. Tickets will be available from February 20 through Ticket Services and at the box office of the Apollon Theater.<\/p>\n
