A modern woman endures unspeakable torture and humiliation from her husband's sadistic family. Until Euripides’s Medea comes to the fore. In her ancient words, she finds the comfort she lacks, and thus the modern "Medea" comes into direct connection with the ancient one.<\/p>\n

Dimitris Zougos wrote his own "Medea" in a \u201ctrochaic\u201d meter, faithfully following in the footsteps of the great tragedian while bridging the gap between the ancient world and its customs and the present.<\/p>\n

The two texts are intertwined like a ball of yarn that Medea unravels to weave her deadly web. Their discourse is common, but their experiences and circumstances are not.<\/p>\n

Dimitris Zougou’s heroine endures unspeakable torture and humiliation. Her dignity has been irreparably damaged. The sadistic family that surrounds her has turned her into a slave. The battle in her mind has long been lost and her fate seems sealed.<\/p>\n

The only thing keeping her alive is her maternal instinct. Until, at least, developments bring something more primitive and divine to the surface. Hatred.<\/p>\n
