The year 2026 is not just another year for the people of Syros. It marks the bicentennial anniversary of the naming and founding of Ermoupoli in 1826, and the birth of the city of Hermes, god of trade and intellect.
In our collective memory, Ermoupoli is identified with its neoclassical architecture, the arts and letters, shipping and commerce. Refugees from Smyrna, Kydonies, Chios, Psara, Kasos, and other parts of our homeland, driven by vision and expertise, created a city-miracle.
The 200th anniversary of Ermoupoli deserves to be celebrated with events that honor its history while at the same time highlighting a contemporary identity: exhibitions, concerts, festivals, screenings, conferences, lectures, and tributes.
Guided by our cultural heritage and looking toward the future, we invite you to take part in this great celebration. An anniversary that continues to write history and serves as the starting point for a shared future filled with enthusiasm and optimism.
