From Ludwig van Beethoven to Loudevikos Spinellis

A musical journey through time via the musical creation of Syros

The International Organ Festival “ANO”, co-organized with the Municipality of Syros–Ermoupolis, highlights the distinctive character of Ermoupolis as a pillar and driving force of the cultural development of the newly established Greek state during the second half of the 19th century.

Rare works by composers from Syros—such as Ioannis Foustanos (1856–1933), Georgios Nomikos (1866–?), and Loudevikos Spinellis (1871–1904)—are presented for the first time in arrangements for symphony orchestra. Among them is the “Hymn to Syros” by Antonios Bifferno, which is “Dedicated to the music-loving citizens of Ermoupolis,” as stated in its original 1898 score.
