Ermoupolis: A Lyrical Capital
The Continuous Journey of Melodrama Through 200 Years of Ermoupolis
The children of the Children’s and Youth Choir of the Orchestra of the Cyclades celebrate the 200-year history of their city with a concert honoring the uninterrupted course of music, and especially lyrical theater, from the founding of Ermoupolis to the present day.
With the support of orchestra members as well as solo singers from the newly established Musical Theater Troupe of the OtC, the program features excerpts, choral pieces, and arias from famous operas—such as Carmen, La Bohème, and La Traviata—which have left a mark on the cultural life of Syros society and the Apollon Theater, along with songs composed for Ermoupolis or inspired by its history.
A concert that connects past and present, linking the glorious musical life of yesteryear with the hope and talent of today’s children. The story of Ermoupolis told through classical music and opera!
