DIMITRIS MYSTAKIDIS- AMERIKA (solo)

Dimitris Mystakidis, during his solo performance “Amerika”, revives the forgotten technique of “tsibiti” guitar and uniquely arranges songs that were only recorded and performed live in America by Greek immigrant musicians almost a century ago.

Songs about getting apart from our beloved ones, the long and painful journey to America, survival and adaptation struggle, marginalization, illegalities, loss and the dream of return, create unique movie scenes during the performance. The touching rhythm which is doric but mastery, spells woes, recalls memories and rises emotions.

The audio-visual material that accompanies the performance reminds us of the repeating history.

It enlightens up experiences and feelings that are born during every single migration.

“Amerika” self-titled album (April 2017) received excellent reviews, remained for months in the Top 10 of the European World Music Charts and was on the lists of the best albums for 2017 both in Greece and abroad.
