13th Syros Jazz Festival
For the thirteenth consecutive year, the Syros Jazz Festival transforms the island into a meeting point for the international music scene. From September 11 to 14, the Apollon Theater, the Historical Museum of Ermoupolis and other venues in Ermoupolis become stages, screening rooms and exhibition spaces, offering the public a free program that combines concerts, cinema, visual arts and parallel activities.
This year’s event, entitled “Generations”, celebrates the creative coexistence of different generations of artists. Jazz, a music born from the freedom of improvisation, maintains its evolving character, as younger musicians converse with older ones. This year the festival has a more international character than ever before, hosting bands and artists from many European countries, in a polyphonic meeting that captures the global dimension of jazz.
This year the festival is dedicated to the memory of George Charonitis (1955–2025), who contributed to the spread of jazz in Greece through his work.
Concerts – Apollon Theatre.
The heart of the festival beats at the Apollon Theatre with three consecutive nights of concerts. On Friday 12 September, 17-year-old guitarist Dimitris Kassavetis will perform with his quartet, as well as the electric Ermis Michail Quartet from Cyprus. On Saturday 13 September, the stage will be occupied by the Italian duo Migrantes, which combines jazz with Arab-Ottoman and world music, and the Emmalisa Hallander Quartet from Sweden, with the great young singer making her first appearance in Greece. The curtain falls on Sunday, September 14th with the third performance by Swedish guitarist William Nilsson, the Antoine Karacostas Quartet from France, whose repertoire combines modern jazz with original rebetiko arrangements, as well as the local vocal ensemble LaLune, recently created in Syros under the direction of maestro Alexandros Dimitropoulos.
The event is organized by AMKE ReSolution, co-organized by the South Aegean Region and the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis, and is under the auspices and financial support of the Ministry of Culture, while also supported by the Bank of Greece.
Admission is free to all concerts and parallel events.
