POSTPONEMENT OF MARIA EFTHYMIOU’S LECTURE AT THE APOLLON THEATRE

The Syros Museum of Maritime Tradition and the Syros Association of Seafarers’ Wives, “Ankyra,” announce the postponement of Ms. Maria Efthymiou’s lecture, which was scheduled to take place at the Apollon Theatre on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.

According to the official weather forecast issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), exceptionally adverse weather conditions are expected to prevail across the Cyclades on Wednesday, 14 October, and Thursday, 15 October. These conditions make it impossible for Ms. Efthymiou to travel to Syros and, in particular, to return to Athens in time to meet important prior commitments.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the understanding shown by all those who had obtained admission tickets and were eagerly looking forward to attending Ms. Efthymiou’s lecture, as well as by everyone else who had expressed an interest in the event.

We would also like to inform the public that the lecture will be rescheduled for a future date, in coordination with Ms. Efthymiou and the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Syros–Ermoupoli, subject to the availability of the Apollon Theatre, which will host the event.

Lecture by Emeritus Professor of History Maria Efthymiou at the Apollo Theatre

The Museum of Maritime Tradition of Syros and the Syros Association of Seafarers’ Wives “Ankyra” are co-organizing a special event at the Apollo Theatre dedicated to the history and development of Greek shipping, featuring a lecture by Ms. Maria Efthymiou, Emeritus Professor of History at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

In her lecture, Ms. Efthymiou will explore the origins of navigation and its development throughout the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. She will also examine the broader contribution of maritime activity to the major transformations of World Civilization and the global economy throughout history.

The lecture will be followed by a screening of a documentary, approximately 25 minutes long, focusing on contemporary Greek shipping.

Starting time: 19:00

Admission is free, with free admission tickets available through TicketServices and from the box office of the Apollo Theatre, starting 10 October.
