Xerxes by Maria Drimi

Four women, friends for years, have gathered at the home of one of them to celebrate her birthday. The birthday girl has an unexpected gift for them; Xerxes. The play deals with issues such as friendship, female sexuality in adulthood, loneliness, and decay. “It is a comedy of characters with bittersweet nuances,” says the author. Each of the women carries a past of cancelled dreams and joys that have become memories, yet they remain alive and ready for the longed-for change, for a new adventure, for a dream that will illuminate their present and future. The male character with the pompous name of Alcibiades Gemistos, Xerxes’ salesman, is a lonely man, completely different from the profile the company has dictated he sells to his customers. His encounter with the four women will irrevocably change his life as well.
