The Neohellenic Theater of Ermoupoli in the 19th century (1866-1900)

ΒΟΟΚ PRESENTATION

On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the founding of the “Apollon” theater and the completion of the book by Eftychia Nicolacopoulou entitled: “The Neohellenic Theater of Ermoupoli in the 19th century (1866-1900)“, it will take place at the Theater ” Apollon” on October 23, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. The book will be released under the aegis of the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis and the French Institute of Greece (IFG).

The detailed program of the event is as follows:

The Mayor of Syros – Ermoupolis, Mr. Alexandros Athanasiou, short speech.

The book will be presented by:

Yiannis Decavalas, former mayor of Hermoupolis-Syros

Lefteris Yovanidis, former Artistic Director of the Municipal Theater of Piraeus

Angeliki Kastritsioti, an employee at the General Archives of the State Department of Syros, reads the author’s curriculum vitae and gives a brief presentation of his book

· Eftychia Nicolacopoulou, doctor in French philology, postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Theater Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens University of Athens, former School Councilor of the Aegean Region, former Educational Councilor of the Peloponnese and West Attica, presents her book with words and images.

Yiannis Desipris, President of the repertory company of Syros, “O Souris” and vice-president of the Amateur Theatre Federation of the South Aegean Periphery Will read some Extracts From the book.

The event is accompanied by music and a theatrical performance by the Syros theater groupe “Souris”.

It is a systematic postdoctoral research that examines and analyzes all the performances recorded in Syros during the second half of the 19th century, in three periods 1866-1879, 1880-1889 and 1890-1900.

There will be a presentation with a laptop and projection of research data regarding theatrical performances of the 19th century, as well as a reference to the programs and troupes that performed in Syros. The public will be able to discover what these unknown programs looked like, kept in private collections and in particular in the rich collection of Stavros Vafias. The focus will be on the shows as well as the plays and actors that most moved the Syros audience.

At the end of the presentation, the research results will be given and the name of the most popular French author in Syros will be revealed.
