An integral part of our local identity, uniquely combining the charming contrasts of medieval Ano Syros with the rebetiko tradition and neoclassical Hermoupolis with the iconic Apollon Theater!
The Municipality of Syros – Hermoupolis, once again staying true to its tradition, with the valuable collaboration of dozens of carnival groups, sponsors, local associations, and many volunteers, is delighted to present the program for the Syros Carnival “Georgios Souris” 2025! A rich program for all ages and preferences, spanning a whole month.
Music, dance, singing, tradition, wild celebrations, and joy will flood the entire island and warm us in the heart of winter!
Don’t miss:
- The Children’s Carnival, organized for the second time after last year’s success, featuring numerous activities exclusively for our young carnival-goers,
- The unique musical performances with Dimitris Mystakidis, Stamatis Kraounakis, the Cyclades Orchestra conducted by Nikos Kypourgos, and Veronica Davaki,
- The Hidden Loukoumi Hunt, which celebrates its ninth anniversary this year,
- Stand-up Comedy Night with Ira Katsouda and Konstantinos Bouras – Baimakos,
- And, of course, the traditional customs of our region.
As every year, the highlight of the festivities will be the carnival parades in Ano Syros and Hermoupolis! The first carnival parade starts from the Kamara of Ano Syros, with groups dancing and walking all the way to Vamvakaris Square. Music, jokes, applause, streamers, and confetti accompany them along the route.
After the parade, the music continues …with a party at “Piazza.”
A second parade of carnival groups, enriched with floats and dazzling constructions, will take place in Hermoupolis. A spectacularly colorful procession that floods the streets of Hermoupolis.
After the carnival parade, the group members and spectators are invited to a grand celebration in honor of the carnival teams, who are undoubtedly the protagonists of the Syros Carnival. The musical group Walkman the Band will set the rhythm, knowing the true essence of entertainment.
Walkman The Band is now one of the best party bands in Greece! They became known to the Greek audience through their clever covers of Greek songs, which have garnered millions of views on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as from their hundreds of performances across Greece.
A band that seamlessly blends all dance genres you’d hear at a party—Walkman The Band has mastered this art.
The songs we have all loved over the years transform one after another in ways you wouldn’t expect. The band is now part of the Heaven Music family, preparing to create even more musical journeys!
The illustration was created by Dimitris Kasdaglis, who explains the inspiration behind his work:
“In Carnival, opposites attract! With this in mind, I initially envisioned a mermaid serenade, featuring Souris’ Fasoulis as a winged rebetiko troubadour… However, upon reading about the life and work of the satirical poet, I discovered his legendary fear of the sea. That was it! So instead of Fasoulis, I placed his creator himself, disguised as a sailor—not just facing his fear, but serenading it! Because if we don’t satirize ourselves and laugh at our fears during Carnival, then when?”
