The Orchestra of the Cyclades meets Manos Hadjidakis
From its very first steps in 2010, the Orchestra of the Cyclades has on many occasions engaged with the rich compositional legacy of Manos Hadjidakis, primarily through his music and songs for the cinema. This year, on the occasion of the completion—three months ago—of one hundred years since the birth of the great composer, the Orchestra presents a comprehensive tribute to his work entitled “The Orchestra of the Cyclades meets Manos Hadjidakis.”
The tribute will be presented in two concerts at the Apollon Theatre, on Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1.
The Orchestra will be conducted by Nikos Kypourgos, who has an in-depth knowledge of Hadjidakis’s music, having been a close collaborator of his and having orchestrated major works such as Laiki Agora (The Marketplace) and Amorgos. In this way, the large ensemble of the Cyclades approaches this music in a distinctive manner, highlighting its polyphony and the rich variety of instruments at its disposal.
Participating in the concert is the Orchestra’s Children’s and Youth Choir, which in recent months has embarked on a new creative path under the direction of operatic singer Christina Asimakopoulou. Also taking part is the female vocal ensemble LaLune, founded in 2023 by Alexandros Dimitropoulos, conductor of the Syros Music Association.
